How I work

1

Children

Therapy with children is informed by a strong developmental and attachment lens, with wrap-around family support used to strengthen emotional, behavioural and social development across settings.

This may include parent support, behavioural formulation, school collaboration, and practical strategies to support regulation, communication and day-to-day functioning.

2

Older children and adolescents

With older children and adolescents, therapy draws primarily on evidence-based CBT, ACT and DBT-informed approaches to build insight, strengthen emotional and mood regulation, improve social functioning, reduce problematic behaviours, and support progress towards meaningful functional goals.

3

Young adults

With young adults, therapy is primarily grounded in ACT and CBT, with support focused on adjustment to adulthood, post-school life, emotional wellbeing, independence, self-care, vocational growth, and building a more workable and meaningful life direction.

Common therapy goals

Frequently targeted goals

  • Improving emotional regulation and distress tolerance
  • Reducing anxiety, low mood and behavioural escalation
  • Strengthening social understanding, friendship skills and conflict navigation
  • Building stronger family communication and relationships
  • Supporting executive functioning, organisation and follow-through
  • Improving self-care, independence and daily living skills
  • Supporting school attendance, school engagement or vocational participation
  • Reducing the functional impact of tics and strengthening management strategies

Clinical orientation

Across age groups, intervention is focused not only on symptom reduction, but also on improving day-to-day functioning, relationships, participation and longer-term developmental growth.

Therapy is grounded in a developmental, neuroaffirming and functional lens, with support tailored to age, presentation and the practical goals most relevant to daily life.
